We Can
Posted on Sep 17, 2014
After review by the Governor's Office, We Can has been recognized as a research-based curriculum that is aligned with the Illinois Early Learning and Development Standards. With this distinction, We Can has been included on the Illinois State Board of Education Preschool for All scoring rubric list.
Developed by Vicki Gibson, Ph.D., We Can is a proven prekindergarten and early learning solution that prepares all children for academic success. The robust, multidisciplinary curriculum provides a clear road map for early learning success—featuring easy-to-implement lesson plans, a wide range of innovative and technology-enhanced learning tools, embedded differentiation, and a comprehensive classroom management system.
We Can is built to address key literacy and numeracy skills defined in the Common Core and other state standards for kindergarten and delivers instruction and practice to support learning in all early childhood domains.
"Common Core readiness is more important now than ever, and a good foundation can help students achieve greater success in the future," said George Logue, president of Voyager Sopris Learning. "We are committed to helping students prepare for success in school and beyond, which is why the We Can program was built to address foundational skills and standards for kindergarten."
We Can has a history of success. A five-year study has revealed a dramatic decrease in special education referrals for both language arts (from 24% to 4%) and math (from 28% to 9%)— resulting in a savings of more than $1.75 million. We Can is also closing the achievement gap between schools most and least impacted by poverty with students continuing to demonstrate academic gains over time. Voyager Sopris Learning is proud to be able to provide Illinois schools with high-quality prekindergarten instruction in early literacy, numeracy, prewriting, content areas, oral language development, and American Sign Language. This multidisciplinary curriculum builds the foundation for success in kindergarten and beyond.
