Voyager Sopris Learning®, a provider of a comprehensive suite of evidence-based interventions, assessments, and professional services, announced today its receipt of the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning's (DECAL) approval of the We Can Early Learning Curriculum for Georgia's PreK Program curriculum list, beginning with the 2014–2015 school year.
In its summary of We Can's curriculum score, the Georgia curriculum review team stated: "Overall, the reviewers found substantial evidence that the We Can(2nd Edition) curriculum meets the criteria identified by Georgia DECAL. For instance, the curriculum provides instruction and activities to support all ofGeorgia's Early Learning and Development Standards (GELDS). Teachers also receive substantial guidance for setting up the environment and promoting children's independence in carrying out routines in the classroom."
Developed by Vicki Gibson, Ph.D., We Can is a proven PreK and early learning solution that prepares all children, ages 3 to 5, for academic success. The robust, multidisciplinary curriculum provides a clear road map for early learning success—featuring easy-to-implement lesson plans, a wide range of innovative and technology-enhanced learning tools, embedded differentiation, and a comprehensive classroom management system.
We Can is built to address key literacy and numeracy skills defined in the Common Core and other state standards for kindergarten and delivers instruction and practice to support learning in all early childhood domains.
"Common Core readiness is more important now than ever and a good foundation can help students achieve greater success in the future," says George Logue, president of Voyager Sopris Learning. "We are committed to helping students prepare for the rigors of the Common Core State Standards which is why the We Can program was built to address foundational skills and standards for kindergarten."
We Can has a history of success, with proven results in districts like Granite School District in Utah, where a study revealed a dramatic decrease in special education referrals as well as a narrowing of the achievement gap between schools most and least impacted by poverty for both language arts (from 24% to 4%) and math (from 28% to 9%). Voyager Sopris Learning is proud to be able to provide Georgia schools with high-quality preK instruction in early literacy, numeracy, prewriting, content areas, oral language development, and American Sign Language.
