Professional Development Targeted to K-3 Educators

Fundamentals of Literacy Instruction is professional development for teachers of reading who want to implement the components and principles of scientifically based reading instruction.

This dynamic course deepens educator knowledge and skill as it:

  • Introduces the science of how children learn to read
  • Illustrates the importance of oral language, phoneme awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension in reading instruction
  • Demonstrates how to put these concepts to work in the classroom

In-person. Face-to-face training is at the core of the Fundamentals of Literacy Instruction professional development model. Teachers learn explicit best practices to put into use immediately in their classrooms. The Training Manual is the core companion piece to face-to-face professional development.

How Does FOLI Work?

  • Learn how to develop lesson plans that help students meet their state standards
  • evelop and practice using effective text-dependent questions
  • Understand and use an Outcomes-Driven Model to review student data, determine student needs, plan instruction, and adjust instruction on an ongoing basis
